Director of Finance: East Harlem Tutorial Program

Position Overview
The Director of Finance is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of East Harlem Tutorial Program and our public-charter schools in the areas of accounting, budgeting and financial planning and oversight.

Responsibilities of the Director, Finance include, but are not limited to: Financial Strategy
• Support the management of a fiscally responsible and sustainable organization
• Prepare monthly financial reports that provide insight into the organization and performance against financial plans
• Assess organizational performance against annual budget and long-term objectives
• Ensure long-term budgetary planning and costs management align with strategic plan in partnership with Managing Director, Planning and Administration
• Lead monthly budget meetings with organizational leaders, Senior Management and the Executive Director
Daily Financial Operations
• Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials and metrics for the Board of Directors and Senior Management
• Prepare timely materials and reports to meet the compliance needs of all local, state and federal agencies as well as reports to meet fundraising requirements
• Refine annual budget and reporting processes
• Evaluate documentation related to financing, leasing and other corporate activities
• Prepare fiscal materials to support fundraising
• Develop and implement systems for investment management in partnership with the Board’s Investment Committee

Audit Preparation
• Project manage all aspects of EHTP’s financial audit
• Oversee the preparation of all requested schedules and support documentation
• Review and finalize draft financial statements and draft management letters
• Plan and lead meetings with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees and Auditors
• Submit and finalize financial statements, management letters and 990s to required authorities

Management & Organizational Leadership
• Represent EHTP to its financial partners including financial institutions, authorizers, potential investors, donors and auditors
• Ensure that effective internal controls, policies and procedures are in place and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
• Remain up to date on nonprofit fiscal best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations

Skills and Experiences:
• Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting
• Experience managing financial audits
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with staff, outside vendors, and auditors
• Attention to detail and time management skills to ensure that deadlines are met consistently and meticulously
• Strong planning skills such as budgeting and scheduling to prepare yearly financial budget
• Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and organizational skills
• Belief in East Harlem Tutorial Program’s mission, education model and core values
Education Background and Work Experience:
• CPA or MBA preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a financial management role
